Rep. Vargas Statement on President Obama’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, DC (January 20, 2015) — Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement after President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.

“President Obama delivered a strong case for the economic recovery during his presidency. The speech presented ideas to further strengthen our middle class, to ensure our country’s future, and to guarantee our nation remains competitive in the 21st century. I am happy to hear that the President has focused his remarks on priorities that are vital to the San Diego and Imperial County region. I know that the San Diego Congressional delegation can continue to work together like we did in the 113th Congress. I am hopeful that we can convince the rest of our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to work together and address the challenges that face our country.”

Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border.  Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his second term in Congress.  He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
